Aspiring Badminton Coaches Invited to WBA Foundation Course in Hamilton


Hamilton, Waikato – March 13, 2026 - The Waikato Badminton Association (WBA) is gearing up to host its Foundation Coaching Course, the first programme rollout as part of the wider 2026 WBA Coach Development Framework.

Sunday, April 12, from 10:00 AM to 2:30PM - Designed to empower aspiring coaches with essential skills for coaching beginner and developing players, this hands-on session promises a blend of theory and practical training to kickstart coaching journeys in the region

The session will be delivered by two experienced facilitators: Ken Yew, a Badminton New Zealand U17/U19 support coach, and Bevan Nichol, Sport Development Lead at the Waikato Institute for Leadership & Sport Studies. Participants can expect an engaging mix of theoretical insights and on-court practical delivery, covering key topics such as:

  1. Understanding the benefits of games-based learning and athlete-cantered coaching.
  2. Analysing and coaching fundamental badminton skills.
  3. Designing and delivering high-quality badminton sessions.

Lunch will be provided!

This course not only equips coaches with practical tools but also serves as a stepping stone toward further accreditation, including opportunities to apply for Badminton World Federation (BWF) formal qualifications through Badminton New Zealand.
