WBA Coach Development Framework and Pathway for 2026 Season

Waikato Badminton Association (WBA) is excited to launch its new Player & Coach Development Pathways and Coach Development Framework, designed to elevate badminton in the region for the 2026 season and into the future.

General Manager Joanna Scott said:

"We’re committed to empowering our community through structured growth opportunities. This framework addresses gaps in regional support, developing WBA coaches and improving player experiences in 2026 and beyond."

Coach Development Pathway

WBA's coach pathway provides education, ongoing development, and accreditation:

  • WBA Competitive: Annual program for coaches of competitive youth and adults, focusing on skills, tactics, and performance.

  • WBA Foundation: Annual program for coaches of beginners and developing players, emphasizing fun, inclusion, and fundamental skills.

  • Shuttle Time: One-off course preparing coaches to introduce badminton to kids aged 5-15 via school and entry-level programs.

Coaches gain tools for athlete-centred approaches, including adaptations for disabilities, and the required development and experience to apply to be selected for Badminton New Zealand delivery BWF Formal Accreditations.
