Waikato’s best

Players in team one are currently the strongest players in the Waikato region looking to advance themselves. They are training to take on the highest competition within New Zealand with the goal of getting results.

Waikato is now one of the leading regions in New Zealand for developing players to a high performance level; the only region that is consistently able to compete with the Auckland regions.

Success Factors

• The ongoing support from the WBA Board, coaches, clubs, administrators and volunteers.
• The tremendous effort of the players in the training program. The choices they make on a daily basis, the support they receive from their family and friends, and the dedication, passion and commitment they display to be ‘the best they can be’ is an example for all Waikato players.

• Please attend the trials / muster on 1st February from 2.30 – 4.30pm if you are able to

  • Please arrive from 2.10pm to sign in and get ready for warm-up on court

  • Please bring with your all badminton gear and a drink bottle

  • These will consist of some fitness testing, skills / drills and games

  • Across February the trainings will be quite open and fluid as we continue to look at your skill sets and ensure you are in the correct training group

  • The trial / muster will start to give us a baseline for each player as we head into the 2025 season and where coaches need to look to create trainings on

• Elite Training Group

  • Previously called T1 in 2024

  • Please attend the trials / muster on 1st February if you are able to

  • Trainings are pencilled for a Monday and Thursday evening

    • Mondays at WBA from 5.30 – 7.30pm

    • Thursdays at Waikato Dio from 6.30 – 8 30pm

    • Team Trainings on a Wednesday evening

    • One training to be pencilled for a morning session

    • Please arrive 15 -30 mins prior to your session time to get ready to start warm-up on time

  • Costs for this group are $1050 for the February to October

  • Trainings will start the week of 10th February

  • Off-court opportunities for this year for this group are:

    • Offer to attend athlete workshops across the year

    • Discounted key fob for door if you would like one at $20

    • Attend the fitness testing across the year (compulsory)

    • Access to a Personal Trainer created strength + conditioning programme

    • Invite to attend 1 x strength and conditioning session per week

    • Player development plan created individually and with a coach

    • Those in the age group open to being selected for the NZJTC heading to Palmerston North in the term 2 holidays

    • Being available to be selected for the Waikato Interassociation teams for 2025

  • Dependent on numbers there may be a split around the age groups to create some specific focused trainings
